To these items, most experienced long-distance drivers add a 2-gallon gas can and sealed containers for appropriate brands and specifications of Motor Oil (1 quart minimum), Coolant (1 gallon), Transmission Fluid (1 quart), Brake Fluid (1 pint), and Power Steering Fluid (1 pint).  These items are intended for emergency use only ... and the gas can should be used only for longer trips.  A full tank is always the best way to make sure you don't run out of gas on longer stretches of highway.
